Components of a Custom Frame

A custom frame is made up of many parts. The major components are the moulding, the mat board, the mounting board, and the glazing.

Moulding is used to make the frame. The moulding enhances the art's character and should reflect the style and period of the art.

Mat Board is used to put space between the art and the glass as well as provide design to compliment the art. Crescent mat board is DH Framing's mat board of choice. This gives us a large range of colors and fabric surfaces to ensure the right look for your artwork. We primarily use conservation boards that meet the FACTS standards. We also can wrap a matboard with any fabric you would choose.

The mounting board sits behind the artwork. It must be of the highest quality to ensure the longevity of the artwork. We use a board which is a ph neutral board with buffering to reduce potential acid migration in the future.

The glazing that protects the art is either glass or acrylic. We strongly recommend using glazing with UV filtering. We feature Conservation Clear from Tru Vue®. Tru Vue® manufactures a complete line of TruGuard® Conservation Series® Glass with UV Protection to protect your framed valuables.
